The founder — Zouhair Khaznaoui

Zouhair Khaznaoui a Lead Moroccan Storyteller, artistic director and cultural entrepreneur from Marrakech. His practice is rooted in Morocco’s living halqa tradition, in which stories are carried through voice, gesture, memory and a direct relationship with the audience over a thousand years in Jamaa EL Fna Square square in Marrakech. He trained with master storytellers Haj Ahmed Ezzarghani, Abderrahim Al-Azzalia and Mohamed Bariz, developing a performance style that honours inherited forms while opening them to contemporary audiences.
His academic path includes English literature at Cadi Ayyad University and studies in political culture at TU Dresden in Germany. This combination of oral tradition, cultural research and international experience has shaped an approach to storytelling that moves between performance, education, tourism, heritage interpretation and strategic communication.
Zouhair is the founder of Fanous Prod and the International Storytelling School of Marrakech, President and Founder of the Storytellers Union for Cultural Innovation and Art of Storytelling, and Co-founding Director of the Marrakech International Storytelling Festival. Through these platforms, he has helped bring Moroccan storytelling to schools, museums, festivals, hospitality venues and international cultural institutions.
Under his co-direction, the 2025 Marrakech International Storytelling Festival achieved a Guinness World Record after 80 hours, 32 minutes and 58 seconds of continuous oral storytelling—an historic celebration of the endurance and vitality of the spoken word.
